NEW HEIGHTS REFLECTIONS: “Let’s Win the Battle!”

Life is full of battles – battles to pay the bills, battles to keep your boss happy, battles to get the kids to all their appointments and activities, battles to keep relationships healthy. But did you know that as a follower of Jesus Christ our ultimate battles are spiritual?  Ephesians 6:12 says, “Our fight is not against people on earth. We are fighting against the rulers and authorities and the powers of this world’s darkness. We are fighting against the spiritual powers of evil in the heavenly places” (ERV). We as a church are currently experiencing spiritual battles.  We’ve been told by Mt Bethel Church we must find a new place to worship by September.  Satan will use this as an opportunity to sow doubt, fear, disunity, and anxiety in us over our future.  How can we combate this and win this battle over our enemy?

Here are 4 tips for us to experience victory in spiritual warfare:

1. Acknowledge our enemy. Satan is real. Why would God send his Son to fight what does not exist? 1 John 3:8 says, “The Son of God came to destroy these works of the Devil” (NLT). When you’re being attacked, it’s proof that you’re a believer. The more you make an impact for God, the more the Devil is going to fight you. You never outgrow it; it just gets more intense.

2. Realize our authority. Most Christians don’t know the authority we’ve been given by God to use against Satan. Matthew 28:18-19 says we have all authority in heaven and earth. Then Jesus says, “Therefore go and make disciples” (NIV). He transfers the authority to you and me.  We can use the authority we have in Jesus’ name to rebuke our enemy and claim victory in our lives and church!

3. Put on God’s armor. No one would go into battle in a bathing suit! God has armor He wants us to wear every day for the spiritual battle before us.  Ephesians 6:11-17 lists this armor: the Belt of Truth, Body Armor of Righteousness, Shoes of the Gospel of Peace, the Shield of Faith, the Helmet of Salvation and the Sword of the Spirit.  If we wear these (and make them part of our character) we will have a strong defense in our spiritual battles.

4. Go on the Offensive - Many military strategists have said, “The best defense is a good offense.” The same is true for us spiritually. Our spiritual battle field is primarily in our thought life. 2 Corinthians 10:3-5 says, “We are human, but we don’t wage war as humans do. 4We use God’s mighty weapons, not worldly weapons, to knock down the strongholds of human reasoning and to destroy false arguments. 5We destroy every proud obstacle that keeps people from knowing God. We capture their rebellious thoughts and teach them to obey Christ. The weapons God gives us to use demolish arguments are humility, faith, truth, and praise. Take every thought captive” (NLT).  God wants us to go on the offensive and defeat Satan and have victory in Jesus especially in the battle in our minds.  Often our feelings and emotions are in direct opposition to what God clearly says in the Bible.  We need to take these emotions and feelings captive to the truth of God’s Word.  Go on the offensive for God by aligning our minds to God’s Truth and then acting as if God’s Truth is already a reality!

May this be a time of sweet victory in Jesus spiritually for you as an individual and for us as a church!
