In the February edition of the New Heights Newsletter, Pastor Dan reflects on the spiritual challenge before us, there is a recap of our Annual Congregational meeting and more!

NEW HEIGHTS REFLECTION: Responding to Spiritual Challenges!

Most of you know, 2017 was a great year for growth for New Heights – both spiritually and numerically.  We celebrated this at our annual meeting on Sunday Jan 28 (see below). God has drawn people to Himself and transformed lives through the ministry of our church. We’ve seen a numbers of peoples’ lives changed for Jesus Christ! For this we offer thanks and praise to God for His awesome work.

It’s easy to forget that we have an enemy that hates to see anyone or any church grow toward God.  Instead of lives transformed for Jesus and more people at church, Satan loves to see  the opposite happen.  He likes to deceive people with petty conflicts, differences of opinion, pride, gossip – anything that can cause dissension and grumbling rather than unifying around God’s purpose.  He loves to give us excuses for not coming to church.  Satan presents us with spiritual challenges as a church.

God calls us to do the work of the Kingdom of God together as a church.  Satan calls us away from church and God.  The basic question for us is, who’s call are we going to answer?  Let’s all make a commitment to God in 2018 to not let ourselves fall victim to our enemy’s schemes to thwart the work He is doing at New Heights. Instead let’s focus on the even greater things God could do through our church this year.  Romans 8:31 says, “What shall we say about such wonderful things as these? If God is for us, who can ever be against us?” God is for New Heights.  If we believe this in faith, nothing can stop us from accomplishing God’s will.  Please commit to praying for your church this year.  Commit to coming every Sunday that it’s possible.  Ask God how He would have you, with your gifts and talents, contribute to making 2018 an awesome year for God transforming lives at New Heights!

We had a great annual Congregational meeting on Sunday January 28th.  We started out with pizza for lunch and fellowship with each other. Our Church Chair, Greg, called the meeting to order and opened in prayer.  A quorum was verified by our Church Secretary JoAnne.  Darryl then presented us with the church’s financial figures for 2017.  We finished the year a small amount short.  Our attendance increased about 70% during 2017.  Praise God for the growth. We then reviewed our proposed budget for 2018 and voted to accept it and support it through our giving.

Greg and JoAnne were nominated to continue their terms as Elders for two more years.  No other candidates were nominated.  We voted unanimously to approve them for new two-year terms.

Pastor Dan, Pastor Sherry, Marsha, Elisha, Jo, Julie, JoAnne and Felicia gave ministry reports highlighting what God has done in 2017 and what our goals are for 2018.  We are pleased to present Felicia as our new Director of Outreach.  She is excited about the possibilities to reach out to our community this year and see our church grow!

We closed the meeting in prayer.

We have an exciting Children’s ministry program at New Heights! We believe the Christian education of our children in solid, biblical instruction is of the utmost importance. It can make a difference not only in our children’s eternal destiny but in those they affect during their lifetimes. We offer the following children’s classes held during our Sunday worship service:

Nursery: newborn through 4 years old

God’s Little Lambs: K – 1st Grade

Jesus’ Little Lambs: 2nd – 3rd Grade

Sonshine Kids:  4th – 5th grade

Our youth group is for students in grades 6-12.  We meet on Sundays either before or after church and also do periodic fun activities. For more information contact Pastor Sherry at (651) 276-9127

There’s something about it that makes sense, Lent. You give something up, and everything’s more joyful.” – Elaine Stritch

Lent is a time for discipline, for confession, for honesty, not because God is mean or fault- finding or finger-pointing but because he wants us to know the joy of being cleaned out, ready for all the good things he now has in store.” ― N.T. Wright

The best Valentine ever given is recorded in John 3:16 “For God so loved the world that he gave his one and only Son, that whoever believes in him shall not perish but have eternal life.”
