September 2017 New Heights Newsletter

In the September 2017 edition of the New Heights Newsletter, Pastor Dan reflects on what is church, there are upcoming church events, and more!

NEW HEIGHTS REFLECTIONS: What is the Church?

It’s one of those Sunday mornings.  You are tired from a late Saturday night.  The kids are all asleep.  You think to yourself, “Why should I go to church anyway? No harm will be done if I don’t go.” We’ve all been there.  We’ve all passed on church when we really could’ve gone.  No big deal right?

Did you know that if you asked God His opinion of your thoughts of church, you would be very surprised?  God thinks that you going to and participating in the life of your church is the most important thing you do each week!  Not only does God speak to you through His Word to help orient your life toward Him, but you sing songs of worship, get encouraged by other Christians, and you partake in a much greater purpose: After Jesus died and rose again, He ascended into heaven and left His mission in the hands of the Church  - that’s you and me!

Now imagine with me that when you wake up tomorrow morning, you are missing a hand and one foot.  How productive would you be that day?  You would be shocked and rendered largely ineffective in your daily life tasks.  That is exactly how the church feels when you decide to stay home instead of being part of the Body of Christ.  He created you with the gifts and talents you have for the primary purpose of using them to show the world Jesus’ love as part of the body of Jesus which is the church.  As your body would miss one or more of its parts, so you are missed when you are not at church on Sunday morning.

On our Fall Kickoff Sunday on September 17, we’ll be starting a sermon series called “What is the Church?”  The typical American Christian has much of what Jesus intended His Church to be totally wrong.  We think church is merely a place we go for one hour to be entertained and feel blessed.  But Jesus has entrusted His mission to transform the world to the Church.  In this series, you will learn what Jesus really intended His church to be and do for Him.

God is doing exciting things at New Heights.  We’re growing and God is transforming lives!  Don’t you want to be a part of it?  Make a commitment now to be a vital and active part of God’s work at New Heights.  Attend every service this fall and truly find out “what is the church!”

CHILDREN’S MINISTRY:

We have an exciting Children’s ministry program at New Heights! We believe the Christian education of our children in solid, biblical instruction is of the utmost importance. It can make a difference not only in our children’s eternal destiny but in those they affect during their lifetimes. We offer the following children’s classes held during our Sunday worship service:

Nursery: newborn through 3 years old

Little Lambs: 4 year olds through 1st Grade

Sonshine Kids: 2nd Grade through 5th grade

YOUTH GROUP:  Our youth group is for students in grades 6-12.  We meet on Sundays after church and also do periodic fun activities. For more information contact Pastor Sherry at (651) 276-9127
