June New Heights Newsletter

In the June 2017 edition of the New Heights Newsletter, Pastor Dan shares about the “Summer of Love”, there are upcoming church events and more!

50 years ago this summer, in 1967, occurred what was know as the “Summer of Love.”  To commemorate  the 50th anniversary, instead of us growing our hair long, wearing tie-dyed tee shirts, hanging out at the corner of Haight & Asbury in San Francisco and listening to Jimi Hendrix, I think God has a different way we can remember the Summer of Love.   We all believe that God has called New Heights into existence in order to transform the people of this community with the love of Jesus Christ.  Here are some suggestions on how this summer can be a “Summer of Love” for New Heights:

1) Invite an unchurched  neighbor or friend over for a BBQ.  Summer is a great time for hanging out and getting to know people.  Ask the Holy Spirit for opportunities to transition to spiritual topics like church and ask them where they are in their relationship with God.

2) Start conversations about Jesus with those you encounter on your vacations. Camping and being a tourist is a great time to get into conversations with people about where you are from and what you do.  Along with sharing about your work and family, why not add how you are active in your local church?  Ask them if they are a church attender.  Allow the Spirit to lead you into meaningful spiritual conversations.

3)  Stay involved in church!  Summer is notorious for low church attendance.  I have news for you – God doesn’t take a summer spiritual vacation and neither should we.  Attend church faithfully.  Volunteer in a new ministry at church.  Stay invovled my Bible study.

4) Get involved in acts of service that show the love of Christ to our community.   We are going to Feed My Starving Children on Wednesday June 21.  Some elderly neighbors may need yard work done.  Donate items to Neighbors Inc in South St Paul.  Talk to me if you need more ideas!

If we are faithful in following through with this, it can truly be a “Summer of Love” worth remembering.   Let’s get to it.  The summer of love is short!

  •  Joint Service with Lisa Rambo - On Sunday June 4th at 10:00 am we’ll be joining our brothers and sisters in Christ from Mt Bethel Church in the worship center. Lisa Rambo a contestant on NBC’s the Biggest Loser, who used her faith to impact lives while on the show, will be our special guest.  Come hear her inspiring testimony and invite your F.R.A.N.s (Friends, Relatives, Associates at work or school, Neighbors) to join us!  Be sure to stay for a potluck lunch to follow the service!
  • Summer BBQs at Pastor Dan’s - Once per month during the summer, you’re invited to Pastor Dan’s after church for a BBQ lunch.  Everyone is welcome but this is especially an opportunity for those of you newer to New Heights to ask Pastor Dan any questions you may have about God, the Bible, our church, etc. and to get to know each other better! Our first BBQ lunch is Sunday, June 25.

  • New Heights is looking for nursery help.  We could structure this position as fulfillment of community service hours or as an internship for those interested in a childcare career.  See Elisha for more info.

Our youth group is for students in grades 6-12.  We meet on Sundays after church and also do periodic fun activities.  We have some fun summer activities planned including a trip to Valley Fair.  For more information contact Pastor Sherry at (651) 276-9127

We have an exciting Children’s ministry program at New Heights! We believe the Christian education of our children in solid, biblical instruction is of the utmost importance. It can make a difference not only in our children’s eternal destiny but in those they affect during their lifetimes. We offer the following children’s classes held during our Sunday worship service:

Nursery: newborn through 3 years old

Little Lambs: 4 year olds through 1st Grade

Sonshine Kids: 2nd Grade through 5th grade

VBS is in question for this summer due to lack of volunteers.  We are still planning some fun children events this summer.  See Elisha for more information.

A life without the love of Jesus Christ is like a year without summer

Summer vacation is a time when parents realize that teachers are grossly underpaid!”

People don’t notice whether it’s winter or summer outside when they have joy and contentment of the Lord on the inside

Pastor Dan and members of NHCC … Your newsletters are always an encouragement to me… the Reflections inspire me to grow in my faith, and give practical growth tips ! Reading about upcoming activities makes me wish I lived closer so I could attend NHCC and participate with the church family … and benefit from the hospitality of heart and home of the Pastor and his family :) The “Something to Think About” quotes are definitely thought-provoking … I copied the May newsletter quotes on a card to review while I walk, and put into practice. Thank you for your faithful servant hearts that make a difference there in New Heights … and shine God’s love beyond … Galatians 6:9 … Gratefully, JoAnn
